For me, I think the current state of things has turned me into a single-issue voter. ALL that I care about is finding a politician who will represent me, and not the people who put money in his pockets. In fact, I plan to show the Republican insiders that I mean business by insisting that I will only vote for candidates who include some kind of campaign finance reform or restriction on bribes (oops, I mean donations). Hopefully other people will take up the cause, because our congress right now isn’t doing anything for the citizens.

Hey, Tea Party. A foreign navy boarded an unarmed ship flying the flag of a NATO member in international waters and shot dead an American citizen with four bullets to the head and one in the chest on Memorial Day. It did this while the head of the belligerent state was on his way to a state visit to Washington, DC, to be awarded a further $200 million in aid on top of the $3 billion of American taxpayer money the US gives away to him every year.

Why don’t the wealthy (say,income over $1 Million Yr.) willingly offer 10% of their gross income as a “REQUIRED CHARITY” called,say maybe: “Relent 10%”. Are they loyal Americans or not? How much can it hurt to donate to their own country. I think it should be added into the 1040,and be required for the coming year’s filing. Then,maybe we could be proud to be Americans again solely because our own citizens saved our country. GO,America. “RELENT 10%”

Hi,
As a former high school teacher and a present day professor of composition, I see the education gaps that many of our students have when it comes to the basics of reading and writing. I do not think the problem is caused by a lack of money, although I can’t really prove that it isn’t. I taught in a Christian school for two years and all the students came from low income families, but the parents valued education and they made sure their children studied and did their homework; consequently, most of my students there could read well and understood grammar laws. Today I teach composition and rhetoric to college freshman. Those from urban schools have poor reading skills and are only in college because of government programs and grants. I try my best to catch these students up, but it is a daunting task. How much better would it have been if back in grade school their teachers and parents paid attention and helped them read well by third grade.

Parents should be required to come to school along with their kindergartners and take a class on how to parent a school age child, how to help with homework and how to discipline properly as well as prepare the house at night to be conducive to studying. My asian students have all that down pat even if language is an issue with them. They can read well, write well and think well. We should be ashamed about the condition of our urban education system and we should hold parents accountable!!!! It isn’t lack of money that has destroyed our system. Theories of education float around, parents are allowed to sue teachers now, parents are never wrong and teachers are not supported by their administrators.

I feel most teachers are not worth the money as that is all they care about, and this can be seen in how stuipid the children coming out of schools are. They do not teach them anything that matters and the ones having trouble are passed so they look good leaveing the child to fend for themselves in real life. Sorry but you need to prove to me and the parents of this country you are worth it and help the children not your unions get richer.

The editor of this blog is ignorant or dishonest or both. There was a legal challenge to the National Day of Prayer. As soon as it was disposed of, the President declared the National Day of Prayer as usual. The quote “not wanting to offend anyone” is given without citation or context and is false or misleading as to it’s true meaning.

Finally, the President has never refused to salute the American flag and the picture shown does not prove otherwise. Opinions stated as if they are facts are lies.

Yes, Sandi. This was intended to be tongue in cheek. My point was that the left is hypocritical about the issue of smoking. We’ve been hearing for 30 years about how dangerous it is. Now you can’t smoke in public, you can’t smoke in bars, some apartment complexes won’t let tenants smoke because the smoke “might” travel through walls and harm the people next door. We’re told that second hand smoke is even worse yet. Guns don’t kill as many people a year as they tell us cigarettes do, yet they want to ban guns because they are dangerous.

I’m just saying that if the left was being honest, they would push to ban cigarettes. They won’t though because it’s all just a way of demonizing specific behaviors so they can tax them. The people who don’t smoke and don’t like people who do, will cheer every time the taxes get raised on a pack of cigarettes. If cigarettes were ever to be banned, the government would go after another group of people to get the money. Maybe some of the very same people who were cheering when cigarette taxes went up.

Yeah, it’s called “payback’, but sometimes it’s very educational. Some people just never realize how dangerous “big brother” is until he’s coming after them.

I am hoping that this article was tongue in cheek. Prohibition is a proven failure. Since when in America do we believe that every act should be controlled be the majority or the government?
Millions of people die every year because of harmful pharmaceutical drugs…shall we ban them?
Flouride in a toxic form is in our drinking water because the majority ruled. Is that the kind of rule we want?
Mama Obama wants to control what our children eat…will it stop here?
Be careful what you ask for.
